Urgent appointments

If our routine appointments are fully booked, we also have a limited number of urgent ‘same-day’ appointments.  These urgent appointments are reserved for urgent problems only, in accordance with a GP’s assessment of your clinical need. In order to determine your clinical need, our Receptionists will ask for details of your urgent problem to pass-on to the Duty GP who may telephone you for more details, or ask you to come in to the Surgery.

When you request an appointment at the Surgery, our Reception team may ask for some brief details in order to help direct you to the right person to deal with your problem.  You do not have to give this information, but it will help you and other patients to be seen more quickly and to get the right care with an appropriate clinician (which may not always be a GP).  Our Receptionists are trained in care navigation, and the questions they ask you will also help our clinicians to prioritise their workload and identify genuine urgent problems.

  • All children under 16 years of age with acute presentations are offered a same-day consultation
  • People who are clinically triaged as requiring an urgent assessment are offered a same-day consultation (this may be face-to-face, a telephone consultation, a video call, or a home visit)
