‘Save our Surgeries’ campaign

The British Medical Association Cymru Wales is running a ‘Save our Surgeries’ campaign.  General practice is being forced to try and cope with inadequate resources, an unsustainable workload, and a workforce under pressure across the whole of Wales, with some areas in crisis. Burnout and attrition are impacting upon the profession and exacerbating these issues.

Current inadequate capacity in the face of unrelenting demand is a product of longstanding workload, workforce, and well-being issues, which correlate to the chronic under-funding of general medical services.

The ‘Save Our Surgeries’ campaign asks Welsh Government to commit to a rescue package for General Practice, to provide GPs and their patients with the support they need.

Recently, a Senedd petition has also been launched, calling for fair and adequate resourcing of General Practice in Wales.   To be eligible for a Senedd debate, the petition needs at least 10,000 signatures – however, exceeding the 10,000 benchmark would send a clear message to Welsh Government that well-resourced and funded General Practice is in all of our interests and must be prioritised.

We would encourage patients to sign the petition with their name, postcode and email address:  https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/245944
